Simon Griffiths

In 1983, Simon Griffiths found himself under the basket at the NCAA National Basketball Championship documenting the final shot by Lorenzo Charles of NC State. That was perhaps the beginning of a career that defines the adage of never giving up taught by the late Jim Valvano. Thus began Simon's career as a photojournalist and commercial photographer culminating in a portfolio of annual reports and advertising for many of North Carolina's best companies. Red Hat, Highwoods, CCB as well as many others counted on him to capture the best of their leadership. Simon's editorial work has been featured in national magazines such as Smithsonian, National Geographic, Inc. Magazine, CEO Magazine, and Banking Strategies, and many other local, regional, and national publications. His humorous greeting card line through Avanti Inc. has sold well over 2 million cards.

In 2005, Simon Went into transition formulating a plan to get back to the work he loves the most ...black and white portraits. The opportunity to capture the people that make this country work in a way that is timeless as well as important to the historical record of this state is an opportunity to offer something that is going away.

That transition culminated in 2009 with the publishing of Secrets of Success: NC Values-Based Leadership, authored by retired general Hugh Shelton and published by Ivy House Books, featuring 35 of NC's most notable citizens.
